Terms and Conditions
Effective date: October 8, 2026
These terms apply to your use of charlieweitzenberg.com and to any purchase you make here. The site and shop are run by Charlie Weitzenberg, an origami tessellation artist in Bozeman, Montana. In these terms, “I”, “me” and “my” refer to Charlie, and “you” refers to anyone visiting the site or buying a piece. By placing an order, you agree to these terms, along with the Shipping and Returns policy and the Privacy Policy.
The pieces
Every piece is an original, folded by hand from a single sheet of paper. Small variations in fold, texture and color are part of handmade work and are not defects. Photographs and descriptions are as accurate as I can make them, but paper, light and color can look slightly different from screen to screen. If you would like more photos or details before buying, please ask about the piece.
Each listing states what is included. Some lampshades are sold with a lamp base; if a base is not mentioned, the lampshade is sold on its own.
Orders and pricing
- All prices are in US dollars. Sales tax is calculated and added at checkout where it applies.
- Your order is an offer to buy. It is accepted when the piece ships, and you receive an order confirmation email when you check out.
- Because each piece is one of a kind and may also be shown in person, a piece may occasionally sell elsewhere before the site updates. If that happens, or if a piece is listed at an obviously incorrect price, I may cancel the order and you will receive a full refund.
- Payment is taken at checkout through a secure payment processor. I never see or store your full card details.
Shipping, damage and returns
Shipping, delivery, damage in transit and returns are covered in the Shipping and Returns policy. Because each piece is an original, all sales are final except as described there.
Lampshade use and safety
The lampshades are made of paper. Paper can scorch or burn if it gets too hot, so please follow these guidelines every time you use one:
- Use LED bulbs only. Never use incandescent, halogen or compact fluorescent (CFL) bulbs, which run much hotter.
- Use a low-wattage bulb: no more than 9 watts actual power (labeled as about a “60-watt equivalent” on most LED packaging).
- Keep the bulb from touching the paper. The shade should sit centered around the bulb with space on all sides. If the shade shifts or the bulb touches the paper, turn the lamp off and reposition it.
- Use a sound, properly rated lamp base, socket and cord. If you supply your own base, use a UL-listed (or equivalent) fixture in good condition.
- Keep the lamp away from water and damp areas, open flame, heaters, curtains and other flammable materials, and anywhere children or pets could knock it over.
- Turn the lamp off when you leave the room for an extended period or go to sleep.
- Stop using the lamp if you notice discoloration, a burning smell, flickering or damage to the shade, cord or socket.
Every lampshade ships with a printed copy of these guidelines.
Care
Paper is durable but delicate. Dust gently with a soft, dry brush or a hair dryer on a cool setting. Do not wash, wet or press the folds. Keep pieces out of direct sunlight, which can fade paper over time, and away from humidity. If a piece is ever damaged, please get in touch; folded paper can often be repaired.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, I am not liable for any damage, injury, fire or loss that results from misuse of a piece, including using a lampshade with a bulb of the wrong type or wattage, with a damaged or unsuitable base or fixture, or in a way that does not follow the safety guidelines above. I am also not liable for damage caused by improper handling, cleaning, modification or exposure to moisture, heat or sunlight.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, my total liability for any claim related to a purchase is limited to the amount you paid for that piece, and I am not liable for indirect or consequential losses. Nothing in these terms limits any rights you have that cannot be limited under applicable law.
Artwork, images and copyright
All artwork, designs, photographs, videos and text on this site are the work of Charlie Weitzenberg, unless otherwise noted, and are protected by copyright. Buying a piece gives you ownership of that physical artwork. It does not transfer the copyright or the right to reproduce the design, pattern or images, for example in prints, products or commercial use.
You are welcome to share photos of a piece you own, or link to pages on this site, with credit to Charlie Weitzenberg. For any other use of images or designs, please ask first.
Commissions
Commissioned pieces are made to your request. Their price, payment schedule, timeline and delivery are agreed with you in writing before the folding begins, and those written terms apply alongside these.
Using this site
Please use the site lawfully and do not attempt to interfere with its operation, security or other visitors’ use of it. Links to other websites are provided for convenience; I am not responsible for their content or practices.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Montana, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute will be handled in the state or federal courts located in Gallatin County, Montana, unless the law where you live requires otherwise. If you have a concern, please contact me first; most things can be resolved with a conversation.
Changes to these terms
I may update these terms from time to time. The version posted on this page at the time of your order applies to that order.
