Origami tessellation

Paper, transformed.

Manipulating light and texture through the endless possibilities of a simple set of constraints.

Puffed Square Lampshade with Cross Motif origami tessellation by Charlie Weitzenberg next to a zebra plant

Process

From grid to form

All pieces starts the same way: a flat sheet, creased into a precise grid of horizontal, vertical, and diagonal folds, each one measured and equidistant.

Only then is the sheet collapsed along those creases into a tessellation. Nothing is cut, nothing is glued. The result is an artwork that reveals an infinite pattern, and changes depending on the angle and source of light.
